Extruders

Give extrusion equipment adjustable screw-drive speed with attention to torque, load changes and process consistency.

Extruders application

Extrusion processes need the drive motor to turn the screw at a speed appropriate for the material and production target. The load can change with feed, temperature and process conditions, so drive selection begins with the machine rather than a generic power rating.

Speed and torque are linked

The screw drive may need to start under load and operate across a defined speed range. Engineers should examine continuous current, starting torque, overload demand and the gearbox and motor characteristics before selecting a VFD.

Controlled speed changes can help the operator adjust output, but product quality also depends on temperature control, material properties, screw design and downstream equipment.

Integrate with the line

The VFD should exchange the required run, speed and fault signals with the extruder controller. Parameter access and monitoring can support commissioning and diagnosis when process conditions change.

Protection, cooling and cabinet layout must match the installation environment. Any braking or regeneration requirement should be evaluated for the actual machine.
